Meetinghouse Clay Center gains its energy and spirit from artists of all levels and commitment working in a communal space to foster integrated learning opportunities, and professional growth. Towards this end, we offer six resident artist spaces available for rent on the lower level. Four are geared towards ceramic artists, and two larger spaces can accommodate other art mediums. All spaces come equipped with a sturdy work table, and shelving.
Included in the rental is access your personal space, to the bathrooms, and the kitchenette. Also included is the use of classroom facilities, wheels, kilns, glazes, slab roller, etc. during scheduled open studio times if sign up space allows. Outside of posted open hours, resident artists may use the teaching studio, but should expect and welcome others who may be using the space with Sarah’s permission.
Resident artists may take classes and workshops at 20% off of the listed price. All spaces have electricity. Resident artists will also be listed on www.meetinghouse.com with artist bio and images.
Resident artists will be provided with a key, and may access the building between 5 am and midnight. If you are in the building alone, please lock any exterior doors. Please check with your colleagues both upstairs and downstairs when you leave to touch base. The safety of our artists, and the security of our gallery work and equipment is very important. Keep yourself safe.
These spaces are intended to give practicing artists the time and physical space needed that they may not otherwise have access to. These spaces must be actively used on a regular basis. The owner and tenant can agree to terminate a lease if the space is being used primarily for storage, or if the space is unused for stretches longer than three months without prior arrangement.
It is expected that all resident artists will participate in at least two of our 4 annual sales. If you are not able to sell work at these sales, the expectation may be fulfilled by volunteering for two sales, either prior, for publicity, or day-of. All resident artists will process their own sales out of their space. If payment processing by MHCC is needed, this can be arranged. MHCC will retain a 20% commission to cover administrative costs.
All spaces require a one year commitment, with renewal two months prior to the end of the year to give the owner time to find a replacement if necessary. Ceramic spaces are available for a monthly rental fee of $275. If you choose to pay for the full year up front, the annual fee is $3,120, a discount of $180 dollars.
The space with the kiln in it is available for $200/month, $2,220, a discount of $180.
The two larger spaces are available for rent at $415/month. If you choose to pay the full year up front, the annual fee is $4,740, a discount of $240 dollars.
Per MHCC’s liability insurance, all resident artists must carry their own liability insurance. Please contact your insurance company for a quote, and provide a copy of the coverage with your signed lease agreement.
The kitchenette is in the large storage space at the end of the basement space to the left, and it is expected that all MCC participants have access to the facility, but that they must respect when artists are at work in the space. It is not an area for hanging out or chatting.
How do you get a space? Please send an inquiry to sarah@meetinghouseclay.com. If there is a space available, you will be asked to email several pictures of your work, no larger than 1 MB and a few sentences explaining how you propose to use the space. DON’T BE INTIMIDATED! You can be anywhere in your journey of learning, I just want to see that you would benefit from the space required. When a space becomes available, I will select from the pool on the waitlist someone who will add to the energy and breadth of work being created at The Meetinghouse.
