Inspiration From Nature: Exploring Form and Texture
Alexa Nickandros
10 Wednesdays, 1pm-4pm
January 8 – March 12
$450, $425 with Early Bird discount before November 14
This class will use both throwing and hand-building techniques to mimic the elegance and whimsy of objects in the natural world. Open-ended prompts with instructor guidance are meant to provide students with creative inspiration for unique works of ceramic art.
We will create hanging planters or luminaries inspired by bird nests and insect homes, use complimentary form and texture to pair our work with an object from nature, and model a vase after a microorganism.
Students will be encouraged to sketch ideas, experiment with different techniques for applying textures, and discuss why certain forms or textures are pleasing. Instructor demos will be given as needed.
Students will get the most out of this class if they have previous experience working with clay.
*All classes include 25 pounds of clay, and the glazing and firing of those 25#. Additional clay may be purchased if needed. Classes also include ample access to the studio during posted open studio hours. Ceramics is an art form that benefits from practice and social time outside of class time.
Refunds will not be given within one week of the beginning of class. A $25 processing fee will be retained from any refund. If a class must be cancelled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be given.
