The perfect follow up to Finding Your Way with Handbuilding, or taken as a stand alone class, Potter’s Wheel Basics will give you the foundational skills for many people’s favorite yet challenging tool we use in the ceramics studio. In this introductory ceramics class you will learn the basic skills needed to create beautiful objects for your kitchen with your own personal flair. You will learn what clay is, how it works, the basic tools of a clay studio, and how to use them. We will cover the basics of using a potter’s wheel, from preparing your clay and tool basics, to centering, opening, pulling and shaping, and then trimming. You will learn the basics of glazing as well. Weekly demonstrations along with personalized attention will allow you to complete multiple pieces while also getting you hooked on clay and the pottery wheel in a friendly, non-competitive environment.

*Summer classes include 1/2 bag (12.5 pounds) of clay and the glazing and firing of that clay.  Additional clay may be purchased by the 25# bag if needed. Beginner tool kits may be purchased for $24 ($25.50 including tax).

Classes also include ample access to the studio during posted open studio hours. Ceramics is an art form that benefits from practice and social time outside of class time.

Refunds will not be given within one week of the beginning of class. A $25 processing fee will be retained from any refund. If a class must be cancelled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be given.
